About Luxor
Luxor is a historically rich city, having been inhabited for 6,000 years. In Luxor the ancient co-exists alongside the contemporary; the old making way for the new. The number of well preserved monuments in the Luxor area is unparalleled anywhere in the world. The city is divided in three different areas: the city of Luxor on the east side of the Nile, the town of Karnak to the north, and Thebes on the west side of the Nile across from Luxor. There are only three main streets and newest buildings follow ancient building design rules to maintain the pharaonic look.
