About El Wadi El Gadid
El Wadi el Gadid, or Al Wadi al Jadid, is a governorate situated in southwest Egypt between the Nile River and Libya. Khargha Oasis is the capital city. El Wadi el Gadid was the inspiration for traditional home designs used as prototypes at the 23rd Conference on Passive and Low Energy Architecture in Geneva, Switzerland in 2006. The main source of revenue is agriculture, particularly the growing of palm dates. Travelers often visit the area as a starting point for safaris to the surrounding oases.
